Muscat: Omani heroes who saved the lives of Indian sailors from a sinking cargo vessel and lives of two Jordanian children from a burning car were honoured by Indian ambassador to Oman.

“Brave acts of Said Al Gamboosi, Mohamed Al Gamboosi and Matran Al Saadi, the three fishermen who, rescued 11 Indians from a sinking cargo ship off the coast of Al Suwaiyeh in Jalan Bu Ali in August and Mohamed Al Hashmi, the car fire hero who saved the two children from a burning car at a petrol station in Sur, are beyond words. We all are indeed grateful to these heroes,” Indra Mani Pandey, the Indian ambassador to Oman, said.

The event was organised in partnership with Lulu Group international and the Indian Embassy at the Oman Avenues Mall.

The Indian ambassador was the chief guest at the function with Lulu Group Directors Ananth AV and Shabir KA.

A traditional Omani band performed and a ceremony was conducted whereby the heroes were presented with gifts from Lulu Group International.

“We’re pleased to be able to honor these great men and to share the story of their amazing acts of bravery, Lulu Group International is so proud to be a part of the Sultanate which fosters such acts of heroism,” Ananth said.

Shortly after honoring the heroes, a family event was held whereby children were invited to participate in a super hero and fairy princess costume competition.

More than 250 children registered and had the opportunity to walk the stage in their outfit and snap photos next to their real life super heroes.

Commenting on the kids costume event, Oman Avenues Mall General Manager Ben Watson said that the Oman Avenues Mall has become a popular destination for families to shop, dine and spend their time together, this event as a part of our wider Eid activities is just another great way for them to do that, and also to honor these great local heroes.
