NAC airbus makes emergency landing after smoke detection

Sep 26, 2016- A Nepal Airlines aircraft coming from New Delhi, India, made an emergency landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu after it emitted smoke on Monday afternoon.

The crew members detected smoke in the aircraft named ‘Lumbini’ as it entered Nepal’s airspace. The pilots sought permission with the TIA air traffic control tower for an emergency landing after the smoke was sighted while they were flying the Airbus at 12,500 feet.

TIA Spokesperson Prem Nath Thakur said that there were 163 passengers on board the aircraft.

Several aircrafts flying in and out of the airport were put on a hold and the runway was cleared for the airbus to land.

The aircraft has been placed at TIA’s Number one parking way after there was no threat of conflagration.  The aircraft is under the inspection of NAC’s technicians and the passengers have been successfully disembarked.
