Narrating Nepal

Narrating Nepal

Sep 30, 2016- A photo exhibition titled Emerging Photo Narratives of Nepal opened at Taragaon Museum in the Capital on Sept 30. The exhibition, organised by Pix India and Goethe Institute in New Delhi in collaboration with German Embassy, Kathmandu, features 14 photographers from Nepal, India and Europe.

Pix India is a South Asia-oriented contemporary photography platform which has been investigating and engaging with broad and expansive fields of contemporary photography.
Speaking at the event, co-founder of the Pix, Rahaab Allana, said, “We wanted to create conversation about culture, history and society through the images. There are many languages so there is a barrier due this but with images and picture that barrier is broken. They give realistic identity of the place and help create the broader knowledge about the country or place.” He added, “We try to take the photo out of its context and place it in a different place and see how the meaning of the picture changes.”
The exhibit will feature some photographs with narratives, poems or prose, written by various artists, critics, poets, scholar and many more, instead of just captions. Speaking about the exhibit, the German Ambassador to Nepal Matthias Meyer said, “This event will help portray a different view of Nepal. It will help to explore photo art in Nepal beyond what has been done before and help create discussion about history, culture and social aspects of the country.”
Pix India which has been working in various countries like Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan has also published a volume with the collection of the photographs and narratives from the exhibit. The exhibit will continue till Nov 7.
