30 Nepali migrants stranded in UAE appeal for rescue

Sep 8, 2016- Thirty Nepali migrant workers stranded at UAE have appealed for their immediate rescue. They had reached UAE 10 months ago to work as security guards and haven’t been getting their salary for the past three months.

The stranded Nepalis have been living at UAE’s Sarjaha based Sanaiya-3 labour camp. They were working at Leader Security Service. The payment they were receiving from the company was not in line with what they were promised by Nepal’s manpower company.

“We continued to work in spite of less salary,” Bharat Joshi, one of the victims, told the Post, “Later the company stopped paying us.”

They had paid Rs250,000-Rs270,000 to Himarab Overseas and NCF manpower companies of Nepal to work as security guards in UAE.

According to the contract, their salary should be 1,841 Dirham. “We were forced to sign new agreement with less pay after arriving at UAE,” Joshi said, adding, “We received payment as low as 500-1,000 dirham. Later the company said that it is no longer able to pay us.”

The stranded workers are jobless for past one month.

“We went to labour court for justice but to no avail. The court summoned company on August 31 to pay us our dues but the company did not pay,” said another victim Dev Kumar Shrestha.

The victims complained about their woes to Nepali Embassy on September 1. The embassy replied that they could not do anything as the case was already lodged at the court.

They received support on credit from one Bangladeshi businessman for some time . Later he also stopped extending support to them.

“We cannot put up with this mental torture anymore,” said Thapa, “We appeal to Nepali Embassy and Nepal government to rescue us at the earliest.”
