Singer Meera Rana makes a comeback

Oct 7, 2016- Veteran songstress Meera Rana, who has sang for over 1,600 Nepali songs in her sprawling,  53-year long career, has now released two new albums—Shri Ram Bhanera (an anthology of bhajans) and Geet (an album of folk songs). The albums were launched, by songwriter Nagendra Thapa, amid a function held in the Capital on Wednesday.

The launch event saw the presence of a host of artists—including Shambhujit Banskota, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Kumar Basnet, Ratna Shumsher Thapa, and Prakash Sayami, among others.

Speaking during the event, filmmaker and musician Prakash Sayami said, “I feel overwhelmed to be part of Meera Rana’s five-decade long musical journey.”

“I recall Gopal Singh Yonjan referring to her as a comfortable and seamless Russian Jeep for her soothing voice when she was young, and it’s astonishing that the pace and voice remains the same,” Sayami said.

Speaking during the event, the singer Rana said, “Releasing two albums on the same day was an impromptu plan; I am glad and thankful to the team for their endless support. I have been involved in this field for over five decades now.Having come from a classical background, it was always my wish to come up with a bhajan album.”

The event also marked the Makhamali Choli Chahidaina hitmaker’s 53rd anniversary in the Nepali music scape and her 64th birthday.
